How to Enter and Solve Logarithms with different bases using the Ti-Nspire CX

Entering Logarithms using different bases (which are the subscripts after log) is very easy. Say we want to enter log(3x) using base 10 : by default the Ti-Nspire Cx uses base 10 as the default and we just type in log(3x) as shown below:

Pressing ENTER then shows:

The image above shows how to change to base 2 logarithm. Pressing ENTER then shows the subscript 2 indicating base 2 Logarithm.

Lastly we are changing our expression to 3x+1 and use Logarithm base 7. Pressing Enter shows our desired expression

 

Lastly, you can solve Logarithmic Equations such log4(3x+1)=1 in two different ways:

Either you can type in solve(log4(3x+1)=1,x) and press ENTER.

Or, you define your Equation first using eq:=log4(3x+1)=1 and then type solve(eq,x).

Pick the method you prefer, they both work equally.

BTW, the solution is x=1 since log4(41)=1 and 3x+1 = 4 when x=1 . Always remember that the Logarithm is the Exponent of a Power as long as the two bases (subscript and the Base of the Power, here both are 4) match.
